Introduction to Practical 3D printing

by Albert T.

The world of 3D printing is a world of many opportunities in which anything is possible. Today, some of the most advanced 3D printers look like the replicators used in star trek. The range of objects that can be made with 3D printing is incredible.

To paint a better picture of how far 3D printing has gone, we need to take a look at functional 3D printing. The type of 3D printing that is responsible for creating practical stuff also makes our lives easier.

3D printing Houses

What’s more practical than 3D printing a place to live in. Houses are 3D printed with gigantic 3D printers that apply layers of concrete on top of each other to create the walls of the house. There are over a dozen companies that create this type of 3D printers.

Typically, 3D printed houses are a couple of times cheaper than houses built with similar materials, they last longer, they are made faster, and with almost zero assistance from people.

3D printing Prosthetics

It is fair to say that the world of prosthetics had its renaissance with the introduction of 3D printers. Millions of people wear 3D printed prosthetics. Thanks to 3D printing, affordable prosthetics are 3D printed pretty much anywhere in the world. Another benefit of 3D printed prosthetics is that they can be fully customized to the need of the patient.

Even dogs, cats, and other animals in need get to use a 3D printed prosthetic whenever possible.

3D Printing Food

How about a 3D printed pizza or a 3D printed cake? There are actual 3D printers available on the market that can prepare a meal for you. Of course, you need to add the ingredients first. But once you feed them the ingredients, they get to do all the hard work.

3D printing a Car

As we’ve mentioned earlier, the world of 3D printing has gone pretty far. Nowadays, there are 3D printers that can even 3D print a car; to be more precise, the car’s chassis. That’s not a small thing.

3D printing clothes & Shoes

There are ready-to-go 3D printers that can produce all of your clothes and shoes. If you are creative enough, you can create your own fashion line of 3D printed clothes and/or shoes. Of course, you will need to design them first. But let’s just assume that you got that covered.

3D printing Jewelry

Thanks to the development of metal 3D printers you can create any type of jewelry. Again, your only limit is your imagination, your budget (these 3D printers come with a hefty price attached to them), and your technical ability to turn ideas into 3D drawings.

In Conclusion

3D printing limits haven’t been reached yet. Yet, even at this stage, there is an overwhelming feeling that 3D printing is already changing our world for the better. It’s even more exciting is that 3D printing is getting more affordable by the day and it’s finding its way even in the poorest countries in the world. That makes it not just a tool of growth, but also something that will help many get out of the clutches of poverty.
